A LITTLE ISLAND SOUTH OF NEBRASKA, from the collection “Ampersand” by RJT

A little island south of nebraska, a little love is all we ask. I want to take you dancing, you’d rather take me to task. All lovers inherit sense of nostalgia and random cases of deja vu and like the bread I’m buttered, and the side I land on is you. And we’re ironing out the quirks and we’re paying off the clerks, spun wheels and spent fireworks. And nothing’s left and everything’s alright if you wear that dress tonight. A librarian in Salem orders nothing, hopes the waitress brings what she likes. she’s just like us in a way, but then again, not quite. April leaves in storms of neglect and may I sit at the table please? I promise not to reach across to you or bless you when you sneeze. A little island south of nebraska, a little love is all we require, although we’ve been sleeping for days, we never tire. Apparently love is something others notice, like the way I notice you, so turn out the light another missed opportunity for me to misconstrue.
