RAINY DAY from the collection “Ampersand” by RJT
Everybody’s got their weakspots and their thinking caps on. Trying to figure where your head’s been at everysince I’ve been gone. And people love destruction almost as much as they love you. They would rather count the shrapnel then all the heartache you live through. And it takes a lot to undermine this shaft you’ve fallen down, and they will beat you like a drum until they like the way you sound. So what do you say? Why don’t you save your rain for a rainy day? Standing in the funeral pyre I was waiting for your touch and I guess I found your reticence to be a bit too much and I guess I found your weaknesses to be a bit too frail and you were grasping after every tear like you were reading braille. I heard your sad song yesterday about the princess and the toad and I heard the secret alphabet that you left me to decode. Because you never say the words you mean to say like Bizarro No. 1, I could never break your spell because your spell remains undone.
